HTTP Live Streaming Protocol
HTTP Live Streaming or HLS is an adaptive bitrate streaming protocol created by Apple. Adaptive bitrate streaming protocols consist of manifest (M3U8 playlists) for segmented chunks of video created at different bitrates. During playback, video players are able to pre-load video segments without buffering by comparing a chunks bitrate with the available bandwidth on the device.
