AI Upscaling

Increase resolution and visual quality of existing videos up to 8K.

Overview

What is AI Upscaling

AI Upscaling helps video platforms enhance the quality and expand resolution of existing videos by upscaling them to HD, 4K, and 8K with sharper details. The AI model refines the image, reconstructs edges, improves textures, and refines details, allowing platforms to bring archived content back to audiences with better quality.

Process

How It Works

  1. Enable AI Upscaling

Add ai_upscale: 1 to your output, set target width and/or height, and encoder_version: 2 in the transcoding request.

  2. Analyze the source

Qencode examines textures, patterns, and spatial relationships in the lower-resolution video to understand which details can be reconstructed.

  3. Reconstruct at higher resolution

The model predicts missing high-frequency information and rebuilds edges, textures, and fine detail at the target resolution.

  4. Deliver HD, 4K, or 8K output

Receive an upscaled MP4, HLS, or DASH file that plays with sharper clarity on modern screens.

Benefits

Why AI Upscaling

Sharper on modern screens

Get more fine detail on today's ultra high-resolution screens.

Cleaner challenging footage

Enhance low-light and noisy video content for a cleaner and higher production-value feel.

More value from your library

Give older content a new life and reach more audiences.

Lower remastering costs

Avoid traditional remastering and automate upscaling for large libraries.

Use Cases

Who Uses AI Upscaling

Streaming and AVOD Platforms

Scenario

A streaming service has a huge catalog of SD and early HD titles that appear dated on modern screens.

Enhance all legacy titles to get a sharper image and bring it back to modern audiences.

Education and Corporate Training

Scenario

A learning platform has years of great video courses, however the quality level no longer matches the newer material.

Renew existing libraries and bring older content on par with the latest videos.

Studios, Broadcasters, and Archives

Scenario

Older masters lack the resolution required for modern distribution across platforms.

Generate higher-resolution versions and expand your distribution.
